Not just a pretty face

As I've been repeating exhaustively lately my first novel Mogworld is coming out very soon. So I took the opportunity to make a little video answering some burning questions people had about it. Click on the big stupid image below to watch:

It was quite fun to make, perhaps there will be more of these if any more good questions come up. Good questions meaning questions other than 'will there be an audio book version read by you in a very fast voice?' which I'm afraid the entire population of Hilaritytown beat you to.

  1. Wrote it down to make sure I'll remember to buy it on the 18th of August.. Does it come out in the UK?

  2. Damnit, now I want to read it.

  3. I've got my pre-order down.
Your reviews have some of the strongest comedy writing I've seen in years, so I fully expect this to be both hilarious and actually a good story (funny how some writers seem to think the second part is optional)

  4. I can't wait to get this book!
    Pre-order is in now :)

  5. To Vestsao: I'm in the UK and I pre-ordered it on Amazon.

I'm quite excited about it too.

  6. So you're taking more questions? Ok, then.

With a long project such as this, how did you keep yourself motivated?

  7. I figure this would be the place to plug the excerpt the Escapist Magazine was privileged to, although I do see the pointlessness of posting this link here on the guy's website...

  10. It might be worth pointing out that, in the science fiction genre, in far too many instances, the cover art has little or nothing to do with anyone or anything in the story. So the question wasn't entirely misplaced.

What was that red wine you weren't drinking?

Sounds like you got another phone call at about 4:58 in...

  11. Any chance that the Zero Punctuation videos will be in a format that is playable on an iphone or ipad? Also, thanks for keeping the old archives up. Every now and then, when I get bored, I like re-reading them. It's extremely funny to me... I guess. Congratulations on your book buddy, you deserved it. Keep up the awesome work.

  12. I really enjoyed your short story featuring Trilby and that ghost kid. Is this book written in that sort of style? I know that's mostly Trilby being Trilby, but I really enjoyed the wit as well as the literary style and your own brand of detail. Can I expect the same in Mogworld?

  13. This was actually your funniest video in a while in my opinion. I guess I've become use to the style and format of ZP to the point where it feels formulaic.

  14. Something I hadn't been able to ask since I can't be bothered to use e-mail, knowing you don't read that. But will Mogworld eventually be available anywhere other than amazon? Because some of us don't have credit cards.

  15. I've always suspected you were a Douglas Adams fan.

  16. Yes dude I can't wait to read your awesome book. By the way I love Zero Punctuation because they are hilarious. They are closer to opinions then they are to reviews, but who wants to hear a review when you get an opinion filled with awesome hilarity!

BTW. Check out my blog for some gaming opinions and more, but more later, cuz I only got like one post now. You know whaT I mean, right? Right! But I'm talking a bunch of crap now here is the link, or url, or whatever else your personal desire may be...FIY it's a link...

  17. To the "UK Version" question, he said "He wrote a novel and you can pre-order it from Amazon and amazon.co.uk"

  18. yay. i just pre-ordered it.
i love what you do with Zero Punctuation btw. it gives voice to my niggling little complains that i have about the games i play, in a much better way than i ever could.
i think that with all your experience (in knowing what makes a good game, and also writing skill, with this book out and all) you could make/ develop/ write your own game and get someone to develop it. i've played Trilby Art of Theft, and thought it was ace, it's one of the best stealth platform games out there and it's also very inventive (loving the umbrella). are you thinking or making other games?

  19. Oh.

I'd always assumed you were prematurely bald.

  20. @william.i.barton

I'm not Yahtzee of course. But I've watched his work for long enough to know he generally doesn't talk about any games he has been working on. A while back in an Extra Punctuation article he began talking about a Space game he was working on. This was later declared on Hiatus in a later article.

It now sounds like he may be working on another horror game, which will be great to see released if he feels like going through with the project.

  21. C'mon, there's at least one sex scene, right?

  22. Tom Holt. Nice.

Seeing the book isn't published, I have no meaningful questions about the story and I hate spoilers, I'll ask this:

What's the main character's favourite colour?

If the answer is a spoiler, shut the fuck up.

As a general question: do you want to continue down this new career path? Was the writing experience enjoyable enough to continue?

  23. Congrats on releasing Mogworld!

I love the cover art, the white rabbit reminds me of Alice in Wonderland.

What influenced you when you created its concept art?

  24. Just got a note from Amazon saying that the delivery date for the book had been delayed by as much as a month. Anything amiss?

  26. Call me stupid (no, really), but I can't seem to message you (Mr Croshaw) on twitter. Loved the Mogworld Q&A vid! My question for you, if you do decide to make another Q&A vid, is: "In your editing process, was your editor a dictatorial dipshit or rather generous with your creative freedom?"
